Refurbishment Roofing

1. The removal and replacement Vs the encapsulate decision.

Bidcon Construction / Cronnelly Roofing are specialists in the area of removal of old asbestos cement corrugated roofs and replacement with new insulated metal roofs. We have recently removed, safely disposed (certified disposal agents – licensed disposal contractors) and replaced a number of these asbestos cement roofs.

The most noteworthy of these recent projects was the main hall in RDS Simmonscourt where Bidcon Construction Ltd / Cronnelly Roofing carried out the full design and construction of the refurbishment project along with Collen Project Management (CPM) and the Management at the RDS.

This 5000m2 project was carried out on budget and to a tight program (6 weeks) to allow our client access to the hall to establish the stable facilities for the famous Dublin Horse Show.

The illustration below lists many of the problems with old asbestos cement roofs and the many benefits from removal of same and installation of a new metal insulated roof.

2 . The Over – Roof Option.

In some cases the removal of the old roof can cause excessive disruption to ongoing activities in a building. In these situations, Bidcon / Cronnelly Roofing can encapsulate the old roof by installing a new metal outer skin (with insulation upgrade as optional) and a new metal lining to the roof underside ( with insulation/ acoustic upgrade optional ).

We are currently carrying out one such project for BWG Ireland at their Value Centre storage / distribution centre in Carlow. The client and staff have recently commented that they will no longer need the lights on in the storage / distribution area due to the massive increase in light following the replacement of the old ‘ in plane roof lights’ along with a new fully sealed white coloured steel internal lining sheet. The benefits of the newly insulated roof will also be reflected in their energy savings on heating the building.

The installation of a new steel roof along with security mesh installed at the new roof lights will also mean a more secure unit with the risk of break in through the roof considerably lessened.
